Abstrak
This study aims to develop the speaking skills of seventh grade students of SMP Saraswati Tolai by using Task Based Learning method. This study used a quasi-experimental research design. The population of this study were all seventh grade students of SMP Saraswati Tolai in the academic year 2023/2024 with a total of 74 students. The sample was selected using purposive sampling technique. Class 7A with 32 students as the experimental class and class 7C with 17 students as the control class. Data were collected through oral tests. Pre-test and post-test were used to measure the improvement of students' speaking ability before and after treatment. Based on the results of the study, there was a significant development in students who were taught using Task Based Learning. This is proven by the formula proposed by Arikunto (2006:311), where the t-count value (3.80426) > (2.011741) which is the t-table value. This makes H1 accepted, which means that the use of Task-Based Learning method can develop the speaking skills of seventh grade students of SMP Saraswati Tolai.
