Abstrak This research was conducted to discover whether the use of a contextual teaching and learning strategy(CTL) can improve the students? reading comprehension in the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 1 Sarudu, Pasangkayu. This research applied quasi experimental design. The population was 44 students. The sample was students of classes MIPA1 and MIPA2 which were selected through cluster random sampling technique. The data was collected through pre-test and posttest. The instrument of this research was a reading test. The result of this research showed the t-counted value (1.467) was higher than t-table value (1.6827). It showed that there is a significant difference between the experimental and control classes. It means that contextual and teaching learning can improve the students? reading comprehension. It also supported in the experimental class, the mean score of posttest is 22.32 and the mean deviation is 5.909. While, in the control class the mean score of post test is 17.22 and the mean deviation is 3.103. It is proved that the mean score of experimental class is higher that the mean score of control class. It can be interfered that contextual teaching and learning improve the students? reading comprehension of SMA Negeri 1 Sarudu. |
