Abstrak
The objective of this research is to determine the effectiveness of using Task-Based Learning to improve speaking skill of grade eleven students of SMA Negeri 3 Palu. This research applied quasi-experimental research design. Cluster random sampling was applied. The sample consisted of 30 students of XI IPA 2 as the experimental class and 33 students of XI IPA 3 as the control class. The data of this research was collected through oral test. The oral test consisted of pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was administered to measure the prior ability of the students in performing speaking skill, while the post-test was administered to measure the ability of the students in performing speaking skill after given the treatment. The mean individual score of the experimental class on the pre-test was 43.89, while the mean individual score of the control class on the pre-test was 53.54. The mean individual score of the experimental class on the post-test was 57.22, while the mean individual score of the control class on the post-test was 55.56. In analyzing the data, the level of significance of 0.05 and the degree of freedom (df) of 61 (30+33-2). The t-counted value (4,32174) is higher than the t- table value (1,99962). Therefore, the research hypothesis is accepted. In other words, using task-based learning method can improve speaking skill of grade eleven students of SMA Negeri 3 Palu.
