Abstrak The objective of this research was to prove whether or not using Choral Reading strategy can improve reading comprehension of the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 13 Palu. This research limited the use of Choral Reading strategy in improving students’ reading comprehension, which focuses on literal meaning and descriptive text. This research used quasi-experimental research design involving an experimental class and a control class. The population of this research was the eight-grade students of SMP Negeri 13 Palu, which consisted of 156 students. The sample was selected by using a random sampling technique. The samples were VIII B as the experimental class with 31 students and VIII A as the control class with 31 students. The instrument of this research was test consisted multiple choice and essay. The result confirmed that the mean score of the experimental class has increased from 44.87 to 73.83. On the other hand, in the control class, it has increased from 48.29 to 62.64. The result of the test was analyzed statistically by applying a t-test using a degree of freedom (df) 60 and 0.05, a significant level. This result of the research indicates that the t-counted value (4.59) is higher than the ttable (1.67). This means that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, the implementation of choral reading strategy can develop students’ reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 13 Palu. This strategy has a significant impact on the English learning process, helping students to solve their difficulties in finding the content of the text, and the teacher can use this strategy as alternative to this strategy in teaching reading comprehension.
