English Education Study Program, Department of Language and Arts Education, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Mawardin M Said and Wahyudin. This study aims to determine whether the use of Fable Story in the grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 14 Palu can improve students' reading comprehension skills. This researcher applied quasi-experimental research design-non equivalent control group design which consist of two classes; experimental and control classes. The description of data collected through the pre-test and post-test. The students score after presenting the material using Fable Story teaching strategy in reading comprehension were better than before the treathment was given to the students. This strategy can be a learning media applied by teachers in the teaching and learning process as an effective strategy to improve students reading comprehension because the use of Fable Story makes it easier for students to understand the content of the story. The result of data analysis that t-count was higher than t-table. From these results, the researcher found there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test result. This means that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and arternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. In conclusion, the use of Fable Story can improve reading comprehension of grade VIII students at SMPN 14 Palu and the utilization of this method can be a learning media applied by teachers in teaching and learning process as an effective strategy to improve students reading comprehension especially the grade VIII students.
