English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Sudarkam R. Mertosono and Erniwati. The goal of this study is to determine if using Retelling Story technique can improve the speaking skills of grade ten students at SMA Negeri 3 Palu. The researcher employed a quasi-experimental research design that included two groups. This study is quantitative, involving 60 grade ten students as participants. The students were split into an experimental group and a control group. The assessment tools utilized consisted of oral test. Both groups were administered pre-tests and post-tests to evaluate their speaking ability, though only the experimental group received the intervention. The data were statistically analyzed to identify any significant differences in the students’ performance before and after the intervention. The findings revealed that the experimental group exhibited a significant improvement compared to the control group. The experimental group’s scores increased from 34.67 to 52.83, while the control group also showed improvement, albeit not significant, rising from 34 to 40.83. With a degree of freedom (df) of 58 and a significance level of 0.05, the researcher found that the t-counted value was 4.785, which exceeded the t-table value of 1.672. This outcome suggests that the research hypothesis is accepted. Therefore, utilizing the Retelling Story technique proves to be beneficial in improving students’ speaking skills, particularly their fluency and accuracy in pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary.
