Abstrak ABSTRACT Rosnawati (2023). This skripsi entitled “Improving Speaking Skill of Grade Eight Students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu through Information Gap Technique”, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Abdul Kamaruddin and Anjar Kusuma Dewi. The objective of the research is to find out whether the students’ speaking skills of grade eight at SMP Negeri 19 Palu can be improved by applying the information gap technique or not. The research design was quasi-experimental research. The sample was consisted of 26 students from class VIII D. The research instrument was a test. The test was distributed twice, as a pre-test and a post-test. The data from the tests were analyzed statistically. The data obtained indicate the difference between the mean score of the pre-test (35.77) and the mean score of the post-test (50.38). By applying a 0.05 level of significance with the degree of freedom (d.f.) 52 (Nx + Ny - 2 = 26 + 28 - 2 = 52), the researcher found that the t-counted value (3.094) was greater than the t-table value (1.987). It means that the hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the use of the information gap technique could improve the students’ speaking skills of grade eight students at SMP Negeri 19 Palu.
