Fiana Anggraeni, A 121 19 104. The Implementation of Skimming Technique To Improve Reading Comprehension of Grade Eight Students of SMP Negeri 18 Palu. Skripsi. English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University. Under the Supervision of Sudarkam R. Mertosono and Andi Patmasari. The objective of this research is to find out whether or not skimming technique improve the students’ reading comprehension of grade eight students at SMP Negeri 18 Palu. The researcher applied quasi-experimental research design. The population of this research was grade eight students of SMP Negeri 18 Palu. The sample of this research was selected by using cluster random sampling technique. The sample were class VIII A as the experimental group and class VIII C as the control group. These groups were given pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed statistically in order to know the significant difference of the pre-test and post-test. The result showed the students’ mean score of the experimental group on the pre-test and post-test are 36.23 and 46.96. The students’ mean score of the control group on pre-test and post-test are 42.61 and 45.94. Consulting to the t- table value by applying degree of freedom (df) (23+23-2=44) and 0.05 level of significance, the researcher found that the value of t-counted (3.98) is higher than t-table (2.015) causing the hypothesis accepted. It means that the implementation of skimming technique could significantly improves reading comprehension of grade eight students of SMP Negeri 18 Palu.
