Abstrak Nurul Karina, A 121 19 094. A Syntactic Analysis of Noun Phrase Written by the EFL Students of Tadulako University. A Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Rofiqoh and Siska Bochari. The study aimed at finding out the most frequently pattern of noun phrase, and the most challenging pattern of noun phrase, and the most challenging function of noun phrase. This research used quantitative descriptive. The object of this research were the abstract of article by the EFL students of English Study Program from e-journal of English Language Teaching Society in year 2022 which contains 36 abstract articles. The data were collected by taking from web journal and analyzed syntactically by using Spreadsheet Microsoft Excel. The results of the data analysis show that there are 8 pattern of noun phrases; type 1 (head), type 2 (determiner + head), type 3 (premodifier + head), type 4 (determiner + premodifier + head), type 5 (head + psotmodifier), type 6 (determiner + head + postmodifier), type 7 (premodifier + head + postmodifier), and type 8 (determiner + premodifier + head + postmodifier) with the higher pattern was type 2 (determiner + head) that functions as subject, the most challenging pattern was type 5 (head + postmodifier) with total only 17 forms of noun phrase, and the most challenging function of noun phrase was complement with total 52 forms. It demonstrates that there is still a dearth of noun phrase use, particularly when using other elements in complex pattern. Keywords: Syntactic Analysis, Noun Phrase, Function of Noun Phrase |
