Abstrak
The objectives of this research are to describe the procedure and effectiveness of implementing the Task-Based Language Teaching in teaching English Speaking skills. Prabhu (1987) stated that Task-Based Language Teaching is an activity that requires learners to achieve results from the information provided through several thought processes and which allows the teacher to control and regulate the considered process as task. This study was conducted by using library research method. The data source was taken from Hunt & Beglar (2002) as the primary data. The procedures were; 1) Learners are introduced to a project, given a sample questionnaire, and a video presentation.2) Then learners form groups, brainstorm topics, and discuss target groups.3) Learners write paragraphs explaining their topic and questions.4) They practice interviewing and using questionnaires.5) The teacher explains evaluation and presentation skills.6) Each group presents their work, which is recorded and then made into a formal presentation. The secondary data of the implementation of the Task-Based Language Teaching was taken from academic writings. The secondary data consists of ten academic writings; Hutagalung (2014), Ayu (2017), Husna (2018), Bakri (2018), Nurjana (2018), Zulianti (2019), Selfi (2020), Meriani (2021), Nugrahaeni (2022), Ramadhan (2023).The results of the content analysis showed that nine studies was successful and one study was unsuccessful. Furthermore, students’ speaking skills average improves after implementing of the Task-Based Language Teaching in the classroom. The researcher argues that the application of Task-Based Language Teaching in teaching students' speaking skills has positive effects including increasing students' confidence, creating an active and fun classroom environment, and aiding English learning by encouraging group learning.
