Abstrak
Nurhaliza. A12119072. The Use of TikTok to Improve Speaking Skill of the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 6 Palu. Skripsi, English Educational Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Abdul Kamaruddin and Andi Patmasari. This research aims to prove that the use of TikTok to improve speaking skill of the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Palu, especially in telling the past using simple past tense. This research applied a pre-experimental research design. The population was 289 students enrolled in the academic year 2023/2024. The sample was class VIII B, selected by using a cluster random sampling. By randomly selecting clusters from the population of interest, the researcher aimed to obtain a sample that was representative of the entire population. In collecting the data, the researcher used oral performance. After analyzing all the gathered data, the finding shows that there is an improvement in students’ speaking skills. It was proved based on the data from the post-test mean score which is 63.03, much higher than the mean score of the pre-test which is 42.42. The researcher also found that the t-counted (12.189) is significantly higher than the t-table (1.721), indicating the hypothesis of the research is accepted. In other words, TikTok is advantageous for students to improve their speaking skills. The significant improvement in students’ speaking skills highlights the potential benefits of integrating technology into the classroom. Teachers can consider incorporating platforms like TikTok into their teaching strategies to engage students and enhance learning outcomes. Keywords: Using; TikTok; Improving; Speaking skill.
