Abstrak
The objective of this study is to find out whether Task-based Learning (TBL) strategy can develop speaking skill of grade eleven students at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Kota Palu. This research used a quantitative method and a quasi-experimental as the research design. The population of this research is eleven grade students of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Kota Palu consisting of 428 students. The researcher used purposive sampling and adapted two groups: XI MIPA 1 as Experimental Group and XI MIPA 3 as control group. The instrument of this research is a test, which is divided into two test (Pre-test and Post-test). The result of this study shows there are significant differences of students’ speaking skill after being taught through Task-based Learning (TBL) strategy where the data analysis shows that value of t-counted (4.092) is higher than the value of t-table (1.996) by applying a significance level of 0.05 with a degree of freedom (df) = 67. It means that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, it means that the use of Task-based Learning (TBL) strategy can develop students’ speaking skill of the grade eleven of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 2 Kota Palu. In addition, Task-based Learning (TBL) can be used to develop Speaking skill. Key words: Task-based Learning (TBL), Speaking skill, Teaching speaking.
