Abstrak
The objective of this study is to find out whether Problem Based Learning (PBL) can improve the mastery of adverb clause of reason of the eleventh grade students of MA Alkhairaat Ampibabo. The researcher applied pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test design. The research population was the eleventh grade students of MA Alkhairaat Ampibabo consisting of 45 students. The sample was selected using purposive sampling technique, and it was 24 students of class XI IPA. The data were collected using tests, pre-test and post- test, and analyzed statistically. The results of the data analysis show that value of t-counted (7.49) is higher that the value of t-table (1.714) by applying a significance level of 0.05 with a degree of freedom (df)=23. It means that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, PBL can improve the mastery of adverb clause of reason of the eleventh grade students of MA Alkhairaat Ampibabo. In addition, the percentage of error rate of each conjunction (because, since, and now that) shows that conjunction (now that) is the most difficult one for students in which 40% of students answered incorrectly in the pre-test, followed by the conjunction (since) with 34% incorrect answers, and the conjunction (because) with 26% incorrect answers. It is similar order to the post-test, 36% incorrect answers from students for conjunction (now that), 33% for conjunction (since), and 31% for conjunction (because).
