Abstrak
Trisnawati (2023), “The Use of Riddles Technique to Develop Vocabulary Mastery of the Seventh Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Sausu.” A skripsi. English Language Education Study Program. Language and Art Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. Tadulako University. It is under the supervision of Jamiluddin and Maf’ulah. This research aims at proving whether using riddles technique can develop the vocabulary mastery of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sausu or not. This research applied a quasi-experimental research design that involved an experimental and a control group. The research population was the grade seven students at SMPN 1 Sausu which consisted of 77 students. The samples were VII A as experimental group and VII B as the control group selected by applying cluster sampling technique. The instrument of data collection was test (pre-test and post?test). The data gathered were analyzed statistically. The result of the data analysis shows that there is a significant difference between the result of the pre-test and post-test. It was proved based the mean score of the test results where the mean score of the experimental group significantly improved from 36.96 to 79.29. Meanwhile, the mean score of the control group from 56.96 to 68.40. By applying 0.05 level of significance and 54 degree of freedom (df), the researcher found out that the value of t-counted (8.52) is higher than t-table (1.674). It can be concluded that the research hypothesis is accepted. In other words, the use of Riddles Technique can develop vocabulary mastery of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Sausu.
