Improving Speaking Skill of The IX Grade Students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu Through Drawing and Descibing Pictures, Thesis, English Language Education Study Program, Department of Language and Arts Education, Tadulako University, under the guidance of Darmawan and Andi Patmasari. This study aims to determine whether the application of drawing and describing pictures can improve the speaking skills of grade IX students at SMP Negeri 19 Palu. This study used a quasi-experimental design. The population is grade IX students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu, totaling 115 students from four classes.The sample is class A as the experimental class and class B as the control class. The test is used to collect data consisting of pre-test and post-test. The test results show that the average pre-test score obtained by the experimental class is 49.21, while the average pre-test score obtained by the control class is 43.75. Then the average post-test score of the experimental class is 69.14, while the control classis 53.33; the calculated t value (3.24) is greater than the t table value (1.671) which means that the hypothesis is accepted. The T-test is used to test the significance and relevance between two unpaired sample groups. Based on the results of the study, the application of drawing and describing pictures can improve the speaking skills of grade IX students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu.
