Abstrak Sarinah Arma Dewaningsih, A12119050. “Using Knowing, What, Learn (KWL) Strategy To Improve Reading Comprehension Of Grade Seven Student At Smp Negeri 15 Palu”. Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Arts Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University under Supervision of Mochtar Marhum and Anjar Kusuma Dewi. The objective of this research is to find out whether KWL (Knowing What Learn) strategy can improve reading comprehension of the seven grade students of SMP Negeri15 Palu. This research used a quantitative method and a quasi-experimental as the research design. The population of this research was seven grade students of SMP Negeri 15 Palu with consisting of 155 students. The researcher used purposive sampling and adapted two groups: VII B (Budi Utomo) and VII A (Adam Malik) (experimental and control). The instrument of this research was a test, which was divided into two tests (pre-test and post-test). The result of this study showed that there were significant differences of students’ reading comprehension after being taught through KWL where the data analysis show that value of t-counted (2.439) is higher than the value of t-table (1.673) by applying a significance level of 0.05 with a degree of freedom (df) = 57. It means that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, it means that the use of KWL strategy can improve students’ reading comprehension of the seven grade students of SMP Negeri 15 Palu. In addition, KWL (Knowing What Learn) could be used to improve reading comprehension. Key words: KWL (Knowing What Learn), Reading Comprehension, Teaching Reading. |
