Abstrak ABSTRACT The objective of this research is to find out whether the use of Duolingo app can increase the students' vocabulary size or not; the researcher applied a quasi-experimental research design which involved experimental and control class. The population of this research was the eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 15 Palu. The researcher selected the sample by using a purposive sampling technique. The sample of this research was the students of VIII A consist of 28 students as an experimental class and VIII B consist of 26 students as a control class. The technique of data collection used instrument tests (pre-test and post-test). The experimental class was treated by applying the Duolingo apps. The result of the data analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. The researcher found that the t-counted (14.36) was higher than the t-table (2.009). It means that the hypothesis was accepted. In conclusion, the use of Duolingo apps effectively increases the vocabulary size of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 15 Palu.
