Abstrak
Nur Afia (A 121 19 031). “The Use of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) Technique to Improve Reading Comprehension of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Negeri 7 Palu”. Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Aminah and Wahyudin. The purpose of this research is to find out whether or not the use of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) technique can improve reading comprehension of the eleventh-grade students of SMA Negeri 7 Palu. This research used quasi-experimental research that consisted of two groups; experimental and control groups. The population of this research was the eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 7 Palu. The researcher selected the sample by using a purposive sampling technique. The sample of this research was the students of XI 1 with 36 students as the experimental groups and XI 2 with 34 students as the control group. The data were collected by using pre-test and post-test at the first and the last meeting. The experimental group was given treatment by using CIRC technique while the control group was given treatment by using conventional technique from the school. After the implementation the CIRC technique on students, there was a significant change in reading comprehension which was previously low become increased. It is proved by the result of the mean score pre-test was still in low score but in the mean score of post-test showed that students' scores very great improvement. In conclusion, using the CIRC technique can improve reading comprehension of the eleventh- grade students of SMA Negeri 7 Palu.
