Abstrak Nurrahma (A 121 19 018). Improving Reading Comprehension of the Tenth Grade Students of SMA Negeri 1 Dampal Selatan Through Jigsaw Technique. Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University. Under the Supervision of Darmawan and Afrillia Anggreni. The Research aims at finding out the use of Jigsaw Technique to Teach Reading Comprehension to The Tenth- Grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Dampal Selatan. The researcher applied a quasi-experimental research design by using Purposive sampling techniques to get the sample. The instruments of data collection were pretest and posttest. The pretest was used to measure the prior knowledge of the students, and the post-test was used to measure the improvement of the jigsaw technique in teaching students’ reading comprehension after the treatment. The t-test was analyzed to compare the mean scores of both the experimental group (76.81) and the control group (61.56. The level of significance was set at 0.05 with 66 degrees of freedom (df). The result of data analysis indicates that t-counted (6.95) is higher than t-table (1.659). It means that the hypothesis is accepted. It is concluded that the use of jigsaw technique in teaching students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text broadened their vocabulary and helped them to identify specific information especially the main idea in the text. Thus, the use of jigsaw technique can improve reading comprehension to the tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Dampal Selatan. Based on the results, it implies that reading comprehension through jigsaw technique can be applied by teachers in teaching and learning process as one of effective technique to improve students' reading comprehension, especially tenth grade students of senior high school.
