Abstrak
Mentari Rizkyah Nur Zam Zam (A12119011). “The Use of Reciprocal Teaching Strategy to Improve Reading Comprehension of the Tenth Grade Students of SMA Negeri 4 Palu.” Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Aminah and Muhammad Arid. The research aimed to find out whether the Reciprocal Teaching strategy can improve reading comprehension of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 4 Palu. The researcher applied quasi-experimental research design. The sample of this research was 56 students, which was divided into 28 students of class XD as the experimental group and 28 students of class XK as the control group. The sample was selected using the purposive sampling technique. The data were collected through the reading test that consisted of pre-test and post-test. The result of the pre-test showed that the mean score of the experimental group is 38.29, while the mean score of the control group is 39.61. This demonstrated that the pre-test mean score of the experimental group were lower compared to the control group. After conducting the treatment, the result of the post-test showed that the mean score of the experimental group is 65.11, while the mean score of the control group is 53.21. It indicated that the experimental group has shown improvement in their reading comprehension compared to the control group. By applying 54 degree of freedom (df) and 0.05 level of significance, it can be seen that the tcounted (9.11) is higher than the ttable (1.6801). It means that the hypothesis was accepted or Reciprocal Teaching strategy can improve students’ reading comprehension. The use of Reciprocal Teaching strategy assists students in understanding the texts and makes the class engage and active because of the communication process that occurs during the learning process.
