Abstrak TEACHERS’ QUESTIONING STRATEGIES TO ENGAGE EFL CLASSROOM INTERACTION OF SMP NEGERI 15 PALU *Anisa Nanda Safira / Nadrun, Afrillia Anggreni, Muhammad Arid (English Education study program, Tadulako University), Palu *Safiraanisa381@gmil.com ABSTRACT The aimed of this study is to investigate whether teachers' questioning strategies can improve students' speaking ability in English Language (EFL) classes. The researcher used descriptive qualitative research design. These sample were two English teachers’, this study includes with 27 students’ seventh grade and 29 students’ eight grade. Techniques of data collection is observation and interview. The results of this study found that teachers’ more often used two types of questioning strategies is Yes/No Question to make students' speaking ability more active in the EFL classroom and the second is Open/Ended questions, to encourage students’ to think critically in improving their speaking skills during the EFL classroom learning process. In conclusion is that teachers’ more often used Yes/No Questions and Open/Ended Questions to make students' speaking ability in EFL classroom. Thus, this is showed students got improvement in thier speaking after being taught through teachers questioning strategies, the students ability in speaking english became better than before Keywords: Classroom Interaction; Speaking ability; Questioning Strategies |
