"The influence of storytelling technique to eighth grade students of SMPN 14 Palu in speaking practice”, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Department of Language and Arts, under the guidance of Abdul Kamaruddin and Muhammad Arid. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the storytelling technique can have a positive influence on the speaking skills of 8th grade students of SMPN 14 Palu. This study applied pre-experimental research design. The sample of this study was the 8th grade of SMPN 14 Palu which consisted of 25 students. The sample was selected using random sampling. Data has been collected by using speaking test applied before and after teaching, or pre- test and post-test. The results of the data analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the results of the pre-test and post-test by applying 0.05 level of significance and 14 degree of freedom (df), it could be seen from the t-counted value (4.66) higher than the t-table (1.71), which made the hypothesis successful. Therefore, this study can be concluded that the use of storytelling techniques has a positive influence and improves the speaking practice of students SMPN 14 Palu. Keywords: speaking, storytelling. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah teknik storytelling dapat memberikan pengaruh positif terhadap keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas VIII SMPN 14 Palu. Penelitian ini menerapkan desain penelitian pre-eksperimental. Sampel dari penelitian ini adalah kelas VIII SMPN 14 Palu yang terdiri dari 25 siswa. Sampel yang terpilih menggunakan sampling secara acak. Data yang telah di kumpulkan dengan menggunakan tes berbicara di terapkan sebelum dan sesudah pengajaran, atau pre- test dan post-test. Hasil dari analisis data menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan signifikan antara hasil dari pre-test dan post-test dengan menerapkan 0.05 level significance dan 14 degree of freedom (df), dapat di lihat dari nilai t-counted (4,66) lebih tinggi dari pada t-table (1.71), yang mana hipotesisnya berhasil. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini dapat di simpulkan bahwa penggunaan tehnik storytelling memberikan pengaruh positif dan menigkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa SMPN 14 Palu.
