Abstrak ABSTRACT Vilza Zahira (A 121 18 212).“The Effectiveness of Duolingo Application In Teaching Vocabulary of The Grade Eight Students’ of Smp Negeri 16 Palu”. Skripsi. English Education Study Program, Language and Arts Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University Under the Supervision of Mukrim and Anjar Kusuma Dewi. The objective of this research is to find out whether or not the use of Duolingo application is effective to be applied in teaching vocabulary of the grade eight students of SMP Negeri 16 Palu. This research applied pre-experimental research design with only one class of pre and post-tests. The sample of this research was VIII C class that consisted of 16 students. The sample was selected by using random sampling. The data was collected by administering a vocabulary test conducted pre-test and post-test. The result of data analysis shows that there was a significant difference between the result in pre-test and post-test. Students’ means score in pre-test 40,63 and has increased in post-test become 78,13. By applying 0.05 level significance and degree of freedom (df), it can be seen that the value of t-counted was (9,05) is higher than t-table (1.746), which means the hypothesis is accepted. Referring to this result, it can be concluded that the use of Duolingo Application is effective in teaching vocabulary at the grade eight students’ of SMP Negeri 16 Palu.
