Nur Kartini, A 121 18 173. Analysis of Reading Comprehension Difficulties Faced by Class VIII Students of SMPN 14 Palu. Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Arts Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty. Under the supervision of Abdul Kamaruddin and Mashuri. The objective of this study are to find out the difficulties faced by the eighth-grade of SMPN 14 Palu, and to identify the factors causing the difficulties in understanding English reading texts of the eighth-grade of SMPN 14 Palu. This research is qualitative research. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII SMPN 14 Palu. The techniques of collecting data are interview and test. The researcher used the technique of analyzing the data from Miles and Huberman. The steps to analyze the data are data reduction, data display and validity. The results of the research showed there are 16.53% of students who had difficulty to find the main idea, then, there are 26.44% students who had difficulties in understanding vocabulary, there are 4.13% students who had difficulty in understanding making inference. Then, there are 52.89% students who had difficulty in understanding detail information. The factors causing students difficulties in understanding English reading texts were internal factors and external factors. The internal factors were understanding long sentences in the texts,and difficulty in understand vocabulary. The external factors were inadequate instructions by the teacher, house environment, and the school environment. Keywords: Analysis, Reading Comprehension, Reading difficulty
