Artinya hipotesis diterima. Dengan kata lain, teknik Directed Rrading Thinking Activity (DRTA) dapat mempengaruhi pemahaman membaca siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 1 Toribulu. The Influence of Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) on Reading Comprehension of Class VIII Students of SMP Negeri 1 Toribulu”. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Language and Arts Education Study Program. English Education Study Program under the supervision of Abd. Kamaruddin and Anjar Kusuma Dewi. This study aims to determine whether the Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DTRA) improves the Reading Comprehension of eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Toribulu. The researcher applied a quasi-experimental research design with 30 students. The samples of this study were students of class VIII B as the experimental group and VIII C as the control group which was selected using the purposive sampling technique. The data were analyzed statistically to find out the significant differences in student achievement before and after treatment. The research instruments were multiple-choice tests and reading comprehension questions. Based on the results of the study, it was obtained that the average pre-test score in the experimental group was 39.69, the control group was 31.79, this shows that students' reading comprehension is still very poor. After giving treatment to the experimental class students, the average post-test score in the experimental group was 67.81 in the medium category, and the control group was 38.75 in the poor category. Based on the results of the pre-test and post-test, the researcher found that the t-counted value was (2.95). By applying the degrees of freedom (df) 28 and 0.005 significance level, the researcher found that the t-table value was (1.70) which indicates that the t-counted value (2.95) is higher than the t-table (1.70). This means that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, the Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) technique can affect the understanding of reading comprehension of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 1 Toribulu.
