Abstrak The purpose of this study was to identify students' speaking anxiety. This type of research is qualitative research. The subjects of this study were 30 students of class XII IPA 7 SMA Negeri 3 Palu. The research instruments used a questionnaire and interview as data collect techniques. The results of the study were statements of experiencing anxiety and nervousness obtained the highest percentage, namely 90% of students chose yes, meaning that the students were indicated to have high anxiety in learning to speak English in public. While the lowest percentage was the statement that students felt afraid when answering classmates' questions using English at 63.3%, followed by students' statements about feeling anxious when asking classmates using English, then students' statements about feeling judged by others when speaking English and students' statements about feeling nervous when speaking English in class which caused loss of concentration with the same percentage, namely 63.3%. Through this study, it is proven that students have a high level of anxiety. The way students overcome their anxiety in speaking English is by practicing more. The implication of this study is that teachers can guide students to be better, pay attention to the classroom atmosphere and give students time to prepare themselves to speak English in order to reduce their anxiety in speaking English.
