Abstrak ABSTRACT This skripsi untitled “The Implementation of Describing Picture Strategy to Improve Speaking Ability of The Seventh-Grade Students of SMP Negeri 21 Palu”. Skripsi, Teacher Traning and Education Faculty, Language and Art Education Departement, English Education Study Program, under the supervision of Jamiluddin (1) and Maf’ulah (2). The objective of this research is to find out if Describing Picture strategy can improve seventh-grade students’ speaking skill of SMP Negeri 21 Palu. This research employed one-group pre-test and post-test pre-experimental research design. The samples were the students of VII A. They were selected by using convenience sampling technique. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test. They were analyzed to compare the mean score of the pre-test and post-test. The result of the data analysis shows that the mean score of post-test (66.14) is higher than pre-test (33.85) by 32 points. It indicates that there is significant improvement of the students after applying describing picture strategy as a treatment. It means that describing picture strategy can improve students’ speaking ability. The researcher hopes the English teacher of SMP Negeri 21 Palu uses Describing Picture strategy in teaching English speaking to improve the students’ speaking ability.
