Abstrak
The purpose of this study is to find out students’ perception of learning English using short stories perceived by eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sindue. The research was conducted by using descriptive quantitative method. The technique of data collection was by distributed questionnaire to 60 students directly in class. The questionnaire consists of eight statements and five items choices namely disagree, strongly disagree, unsure, agree, and strongly agree. Before the questionnaire distributing to students, first conduct a validation test on the questionnaire to ensure that the data meet the specified criteria. Then after the validation test was carried out, it was continued with the reliability test of the questionnaire to ensure that the compiled questionnaire would be really good at measuring and producing valid data. After all the questionnaires have been answered by students, data analysis was carried out using a formula to find out how many percent of each item the students choose and took conclusions according to the objective of the research. Based on the result of the questionnaire most of the students have agree and strongly agree perception in learning English using short stories because students give perceptions that by short stories they can enjoy and improved some of their English skills such us speaking, listening, writing, reading and English system such as grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Therefore, technically learning using short stories is a good tool for teachers in teaching English and also for students in learning to improve and develop English.
