Abstrak
Afifah Indah Khairunnisa, 2022. “Reading Comprehension Difficulties Encountered by The First Grade Students’ of SMAN 5 Palu”. English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, Supervisor (1) Sriati Usman (2) Wahyudin. The purpose of this study was to identify the difficulties faced by tenth grade students of SMAN 5 Palu and the factors that cause students' difficulties in understanding English reading texts. This research is mixed methods research. The subjects of this research were tenth grade students of SMAN 5 Palu. The researcher presents data from difficulties in understanding English reading texts. The results showed that there were 41.67% of students who had difficulty understanding vocabulary with 25 errors, and 36.67% of students who had difficulty understanding making conclusions from texts with 22 errors. This indicated that students had difficulties on understanding vocabulary and making conclusions with causal factors, namely difficulties in understanding long sentences in the text, lack of interest in reading, difficulties in understanding vocabulary, home environment and school environment.
