Abstrak
Zarah Amelia H. Basri, A 121 18 048, “Problem Faced by the Eight Grade Students of MTs. Muhammadiyah Tolitoli in Learning English Speaking”. Skripsi English Education Study Program, Department of Language and Art Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Tadulako University, Under the supervision of Sriati Usman and Wahyudin. This research focuses on students’ problems with speaking skills. The objective of the research is to find out the problems in speaking skills and to find out the causes of speaking problems in speaking skills encountered by the eighth-grade students of MTs.Muhammadiyah Tolitoli. The research method used in this research is the qualitative research method by applying a case study. The sample of this research is the eighth-grade students’ of MTs. Muhammadiyah Tolitoli was chosen by convenience sampling. Observation, interviews and Questionnaires were as the tools of data collection. From the data questionnaire, interview, and observation findings, skills factor are the most dominant problems than knowledge factor, which mean percentage of 80% problem of lack of confidence, 60% problem of less motivation, and 60% problem of feeling shy in learning English speaking. It is followed by knowledge factor which mean percentage of 72% the aspect of knowledge in learning speaking, 56% pronunciation, and 52% lack of vocabulary. The causes of speaking problems encountered by the eighth-grade students of MTs. Muhammadiyah Tolitoli are inhibition, environment, and mother tongue used. The skills factor are the most dominant problems encountered by the eight-grade students of MTs. Muhammadiyah Tolitoli. Keywords : Speaking problems, knowledge factor, and skills factor
