ABSTRACT Nurul, 2022. “Vocabulary Learning Strategies Used by English Education Students at Tadulako University”. Skripsi. English Education Study Program. Departmen of Language and Art Education. Faculty of Teacher and Training Education, Tadulako University. Supervisor (1) Mawardin M. Said (2) Maf’ulah. This research aims at finding the most and the least preferable vocabulary learning strategies used by English education students at Tadulako University and to reveal the significant differences in the use of vocabulary learning strategies based on gender. Schmitt (2000) groups vocabulary learning strategies into two categories, they are discovery and consolidation. The current research used descriptive quantitative research as a method. The data collected by using observation sheet and questionnaire adapted from Schmitt (2000).The results of this research found that the most vocabulary learning strategies used by English education students at Tadulako University is discovery strategies, and the least preferable vocabulary learning strategies used by them is consolidation strategies. In addition, discovery strategies are supported by consolidation strategies directed by lecturer to maximize the process of acquiring new words. Furthermore, there are no significant disparaties in the use of vocabulary learning strategies based on gender. Keywords: Vocabulary, Learning, Strategies.
