Abstrak
Online learning class is a type of learning which allows the teachers and students to interact indirectly. This learning system is considered efficient because it can be hold anywhere and anytime. This research aimed to investigate the students’ perception on the effect of online learning especially on the affective domain. This research was carried out with qualitative research design. Furthermore the subjects of this research were the students of class A in the third semester of 2021/2022 at English Education Study Program, Tadulako University. The finding of questionnaire and interview revealed that the implementation of online learning gives negative and positive impact on students’ affective skill. It seems that the negative impact is more dominant than the positive. Those negative impacts are; 1.) The students’ motivation to understand the learning material decreases during the online learning. As the impact, their English skill does not improve well. 2.) The improvement of students’ self-confidence is not consistent because the result of questionnaire and interview shows that the students’ anxiety also increases during the online learning. 3.) All of the students state that they prefer to offline than online learning. Meanwhile the positive impact is shown in the attitude aspect. The online learning builds the students’ attitude well. They become more responsible and discipline to join the class and submit their assignment on time. However the online learning also still gives some benefits to the students. Furthermore, this research will be helpful for readers and any researchers who want to conduct more in-depth research on the effect of online English learning especially on students’ affective domain. In addition, the finding of this research provides information can be used as consideration for lecturers and any educational instructors to implement better online English learning in the future.
