Mega Sofia Laurens, A 121 17 276, 2021, THE APPLICATION OF DIARY WRITING TO IMPROVE VOCABULARY MASTERY OF GRADE VIII STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 19 PALU. A skripsi, English Education Study Program. Languange and Art Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Abdul Kamaruddin This research aims to find out if using diary writing technique is effective in teaching vocabulary to improve vocabulary mastery of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu. The researcher applied a quasi-experimental research design. The population of this research included 3 classes of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu. Cluster random sampling technique was used in selecting the sample 27 students of VIII A were selected as a control group and 27 students of class VIII B were selected as an experimental group. The instruments used in collecting the data were pre-test and post-test. The result of data analysis there showed the mean score of the experimental class increased from 42.59 to 74.07 and for the control group 46.29 to 52.03. The result of the data analysis showed that there was a difference between the result of the pre-test and the post-test. The value of t-counted was 8.93 and the t-table was 1.98. It meant that the hypothesis was accepted. It is concluded was accepted. Thus, using the diary writing technique was effective in teaching vocabulary to improve vocabulary mastery of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 19 Palu.
