Abstrak This research aims to find out the types of errors and the most frequent errors in recount texts made by grade X students at SMA Negeri 1 Palu. The researcher employed a descriptive qualitative design. The subject of this research was grade X MIPA 4 which consisted of 36 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used a written test of recount text to identify the students’ errors in linguistic category taxonomy which focused on morphology and syntax, then classified them based on surface strategy taxonomy that consisted of omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. The result of the research showed that the students made 277 errors in their recount texts. There were 123 or 44.40% omission errors, 20 or 7.22?dition errors, 134 or 48.38% misformation errors, and there was no misordering error that occurred in the texts. According to the percentage of the occurrence of the errors, the most frequent error was misformation errors. In the texts, the students frequently misused the formations of pronoun, preposition, main verb, auxiliary verb be and copula be, auxiliary verb have, modal auxiliary, subject-verb agreement, verb-and-verb construction. |
