Abstrak Annisa Bella A. Lawatu (A12117243). “Using Short Videos To Enrich Vocabulary Of Grade Seven Students Of SMP Negeri 14 Palu.” Faculty of Teacher and Education, Department of Language and Art Education, English Language Education Study Program, under the supervision of Sudarkam R. Mertosono. The purpose of this research was to discover whether there is any significant effect of using short video as media to enrich students' vocabulary at the grade seven students of SMP Negeri 14 Palu or not. The researcher applied quasi experimental design. The population of this research was the grade seven students of SMP Negeri 14 Palu which consisted of 133 students. In this research, the researcher used cluster random sampling. The sample of this research was 21 students of class VII Budi Utomo as the experimental class. Meanwhile, 21 students of class VII Ki Hajar Dewantara as the control class. The data was collected through pre-test and post-test. Then, it was counted by using t-test formula in order to see the differences of pre and post-test on both groups. The pre-test mean score for the experimental group was 48.72 and control group was 60.63. Then, on the post-test mean score for experimental group was 85.24 and the mean score of control group in post-test was 65.71. The score of the experimental group had more significant improvement rather than the control group had. In additions, after analyzing the scores it was found that the value of t- counted was 5.19 and t-table was 2.021. It was indicated that t-counted was higher than t-table, which meant that the research hypothesis was accepted. It means that the use of short videos have a significant effect to enrich vocabulary of grade seven students of SMP Negeri 14 Palu. The implication of the research findings is that in teaching vocabulary the teachers should apply interesting strategies, method, or media, to help students in enriching their vocabulary. The teachers may use short videos as media to help students to enrich their vocabulary. Then, they can take this study as a guidance in applying short videos in teaching English. In addition, the other researcher can conduct the same topic as well with different design and research subject. Key words: Enrich, Vocabulary, Short Videos |
