| Abstrak Abstract Eka Wardawati ( A 121 17 242 ), An Analysis of the Main Characters in Indriya’s “If You Know Why” (A Psychoanalysis Study). English Language Education Study Program, Department of Language and Art education, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University. Under the Supervision of Sriati Usman. This study aims to analyze the psychological character of the main character in Indriya's novel, If You Know Why, using Sigmund Freud's theory. This research used a case study design through a descriptive method. The subject of this research is one of the novels written by Indriya. The researcher analyzes the novel by reading to collect the results of the analysis. The results of the analysis that in this novel the main character named Vanilla Arneysa has personality mentioned by Sigmund Freud, such as Id, Ego, and Superego ( The Id refers to biological aspects of human which tend to be destroyed, for example, "Where are you going to run away?" asked Dava "To the next door, who knows you can get a handsome guy, not bad to be enjoyed" Vanilla is still trying to move to the next step.". The superego refer to the psychological aspects which relate to moral consequences, for example, “then Vanilla came down because she had been caught, for fear of the punishment that would be received at her school”. And the last is Ego refer to the sociological aspects which control the Id and the Superego as the neutralist between Id and Ego for example “Vanilla just wants to repeat it from the beginning. Maybe you can't forgive Vanilla, but Vanilla needs to know what is the reason you hate me?".) but more inclined to the Id. furthermore, in data analysis, the researcher focuses on one main character with dominates the storyline in If You Know why, furthermore, it has also fulfilled the regulations for analysis from Freudian theory because it has a yeasty and dramatic psychological process.
