| Abstrak This study aims to find out the problems faced by students in learning to speak English. The research design used is a qualitative method. The subject of this study were students of eighth grade (C) at SMP Negeri 13 Palu who had the lowest score on speaking skills. The data collection technique used was interview. The researcher used three major phases of data analysis: they were data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. From the result of interviews and the data analysis, it can be concluded that students have problems in speaking English which consist of non-linguistic and linguistic problems. Non-linguistic problems are experienced by students such as nervousness, being afraid of making mistakes and shyness. Meanwhile, the linguistic problems are related to lack of vocabulary, poor pronunciation, and poor grammar. Keyword: Problems in speaking English, Non-linguistic problems, Linguistic problems |
