Abstrak ABSTRACT Andi marwa (A 121 17 210). Investigating The Effectiveness Of Role-Play Technique In Teaching Speaking Skill Carried Out By English Teachers At Sma Negeri 1 Ampibabo Parigi Moutong. Skripsi. English Education Study Program. Language Education and Art Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. Under Supervision of Mochtar Marhum. The objective of this research was to describe the effectiveness of role play technique that used by the English teacher in teaching speaking skill. In this study, the researcher used descriptive qualitative research. The subject of this research was the English teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Ampibabo. The researcher collected the data by doing interview with the informant and documentation. As the qualitative method, the researcher analyzed the data by using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The result showed that the used of role play technique in teaching speaking skill carried out by English Teachers was not effective because of many factors. Such as because of the teachers’ way in teaching students was not interested student’s attention because the lack of assertiveness by the teacher when taught students therefore the students did not pay attention to the teacher when doing learning. The other factors were from the teacher who did not give the students an opportunity to practicing a role before showed the performance in front of the class, the teacher did not instruct the students to found the meaning in the content of the script then understanding it well, the teacher did not taught the students about pronunciation therefore when students play a role they did not understand what they said, they did not used expression and intonation and they also did not know the correct pronunciation of the word in the content of the script. The other factor was teacher did not know how to manage the time, as a result the students could not learn well. Above of all was related to the students achievement in learning. It could be seen on the students data scores that showed most of them did not experienced an increase the score after doing learning using role play technique. Therefore it could be concluded that the used of role play technique in teaching speaking skill carried out by English Teachers was not effective because of two factors there were the internal factor from the teacher and also the students. The first was the internal factor of the teacher, there was the teacher did not master the role play technique and was unable to attract students’ interest in learning. The second was the internal factors from students. Some students had no mastered proficiency in English and were unable to understand the meaning that they read, said or what they learned. At least some students who experienced an increasing score after learning using role play technique were students who did had more abilities in the subject.
