Abstrak
ABSTRACT Mursalat (A 121 17 181). Improving Reading Comprehension of the Tenth Grade Students at SMA Negeri 1 Tomini through Story Mapping Strategy. A skripsi. Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Depertment, teacher training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, Under supervision of Syahrul Munir and Mashuri. This study aims to find out whether or not the use of Story Mapping Strategy can Improve reading comprehension of the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Tomini . This research applied quasi-experimental design. The samples of this study were 20 students in class X IPA 1 as the experimental group and 20 students in class X IPA 2 as a control group. They were selected by purposive sampling technique. The research instrument utilized to collect the data was a test that was separated into a pre-test and a post-test. The experimental group’s mean pre-test score was 43.85(poor), while the control group’s was 46,97(poor). The main score of the post-test for the experimental group’s was 72.28 (fair) and control group was 49.99(poor). The result of the test was analyzed statistically by applying T-test using degree of freedom (df) 39 and 0.05 of the significance level. This research indicates that the t-counted value (3.56) is higher than t-table ( 3.539). in other words, the hypothesis of this research is accepted. In conclusion story mapping stategy is effective to be applied in teaching reading comprehension of the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Tomini.
