Abstrak Gita Nurul Adha, (A12117154).The Use of U-Dictionary Application to Improve Vocabulary Mastery of the Eigth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 17 Palu. Skripsi,English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako Universit, under the supervision of Sriati Usman and Mashuri. The objective of this research is to prove whether the use of U-Dictionary Application can improvevocabulary mastery of the eighthgrade students or not. The researcher applieda quasi experimental research design. The experimental group consisted of 25 students, while the control group consisted of 25 students. The data were collected using a vocabulary test administered twice,as pre-test and post-test. The students were assigned to answer multiple choice item test. The data were analyzed statistically. The mean score of the experimental group on pre-test was 62.56, while the mean score of the control group was 62.8. The mean score of the experimental group on post-test was 79.84, while the mean score of control group was 71.84. The mean score for deviation of the pre-test and post-test in experimental group is 17.64, while the mean score for deviation of the pre-test and post-test in control group is 9.76. By analyzing the data of the test the researcher neded to find out the critical t-table degree of freedom, where Nx+Ny-2 or 25+25-2=48. After getting all the results of the main score, the results of the data analysis showed that the t-counted value (2.14) was higher than thet-table value (1.67).Itmeans that the hypothesis is accepted. In other words, using U-Dictionary Application can improve the vocabulary mastery of eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 17 Palu. In the process of teaching and learning vocabulary, the researcher asked the students to read several statements and then looking for the meaning of words using U-Dictionary.
