ABSTRACT Maya Anggraini (A 121 17 118). “Analysis of Error in Using Countable and Uncountable Nouns at SMP Negeri 1 Mepanga”. Skripsi. English Education Study Program, Department of Language and Art Education, Faculty of Teacher and Education, Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Drs. H. Jamiluddin, M.Hum. The objectives of the research were to describe the types of grammatical error and the causes of error in using countable and uncountable nouns that most commonly made by the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Mepanga. The method used in this research was qualitative descriptive by using formula: P=F/N. It was conducted as following procedures: collecting data from the students, identification of errors, classification of errors, and calculated the percentage of each error. In this research, the researcher took purposive sampling technique with the total population was 126 students but the researcher used only VIII B as the sample with 25 students. The researcher findings showed that the most common error which most students made is using misformation its frequency is 16 errors or 50%. Then the second commonest error is addition with 9 errors or 28%.The third error is 7 errors or 22% from omission. It can be concluded that most of the eighth grade students of SMP N 1 Mepanga got the wrong in misformation, addition and omission in using countable and uncountable nouns. The reason why they made the errors are because they did not master the form of countable and uncountable noun yet and also they still confused to distinguish which are countable noun and uncountable noun.
