Abstrak Fatimah (A 12117115) “Student’s Difficulties in Comprehending Descriptive Text (Case stady at SMK Negeri 1 Dampal Selatan Tolitoli) English Education Study Program, Department of Language and Art Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Tadulako University. Supervisior of Darmawan and Co-supervisor of Wahyudin The objective of this research to identify difficulties subject faced by the tenth grade students at SMK Negeri 1 Dampal Selatan and to identify factors that causes the difficulties faced by the tenth grade students at SMK Negeri 1 Dampal Selatan. The method applied was descriptive quantitative. The subject are 40 students from class tenth TKJA, TKJB, TPHP, and TKR. They ware selected by simple random sampling technique. The techniques of collection the data are test and questionnaire. The test consisted of 20 question items divided into five aspect of questions, which were main idea, deta information, making inferences, locating reference, and vocabulary. Index difficulty and percentage were used to analyse the data. The result of the test showed that the majoritay of tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Dampal Selatan have difficulties in answering reading comprehension test. There are three aspects of student difficulties such as answering main idea questions (74%), locating reference questions (71%) and making inferences questions (59%). Factor of causing the students difficulties because lact of understanding of the students in understanding a text or of poor vocabulary, poor mastery of grammar, difficult to understand long sentences and text, poor of media learning or support from the family, and lack of knowledge about strategies of reading comprehension.
