Abstrak
ABSTRACT Luthfia Nurhanisa Irfan, 2022. “Correlation between Reading Habit and Writing Ability of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Negeri 2 Palu”. Skripsi. English Education Study Program, Department of Language and Art Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, under the supervision of (1) Nadrun (2) Maf’ulah. This research aimed to find out whether there is a significant correlation between reading habit and writing ability of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Palu. This research applied a correlational research design. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 2 Palu in the academic year 2020/2021 and used 36 students as the sample, taken by using a simple random sampling technique. The instruments used were a questionnaire and a writing test. The former one was used to obtain data about students’ reading habit and the latter one was used to measure students’ writing ability. Based on the findings result, 72.2% (26 students) got high levels of reading habit and for students' writing ability, 63.9% (23 students) got good levels of writing ability. It means that a student who is good at reading habit is also good at writing abilities. To find out the correlation between reading habit and writing ability, the researcher used the Pearson Product Moment formula where the result was 0.561 with a level of significance of rtable 5% = 0.329. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted because the result of the rvalue was higher than the rtable (0.561 > 0.329). The result of the rvalue indicates that there is a significant correlation between reading habit and writing ability of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Palu in the academic year 2020/2021 with moderate correlation.
