Abstrak ABSTRACT Muhammad Rum (A12117071). Analysis of Grammatical Errors in Descriptive Text Written by Grade Ten Students of SMA Negeri 5 Palu. Skripsi. English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Educational Faculty, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Rofiqoh and Anjar Kusuma Dewi. This research aims at finding out the types of grammatical errors in writing descriptive text and the most frequent error written by the grade ten students at SMA Negeri 5 Palu. The research design was content analysis. The participants of the research were about 17 students from X MIPA 1. The instrument of this research was students’ compositions result on descriptive text. The students were assigned to write a descriptive text about their idol with 100-200 words. Then, the data were analyzed based on Dulay’s Surface Strategy Taxonomy covering Omission, Addition, Misformation, and Misordering. The results of this research showed that the students made 163 errors in their descriptive text composition. Misformation was the dominant errors with 90 errors (55%), followed by Omission with 44 errors (27%), Addition with 20 errors (12%), and the last was Misordering with 9 errors (6%). The causes of error found in students’ written text were intralingual errors and interlingual errors. The implication of the findings is that in teaching writing descriptive text. The Teachers need to train the students more, especially in grammatical aspects in order to get better writing performance. Keywords: Error Analysis, Grammar Error, Descriptive Text |
