Abstrak
ABSTRACT Aditya Restu Hadi Pratama (A 121 17 056). “Ability of Undergraduate Students of English Education Study Program UNTAD in Writing Descriptive Text”. Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Rofiqoh and Maf’ulah. There are five components used to determine the writing quality, i.e content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. The purpose of this research is to find out writing ability of the undergraduate students of English Education Study Program UNTAD. The type of research applied is descriptive quantitative. The students were assigned to write a descriptive text. The researcher used the mean score to determine the results of the conducted studies from data analysis of 30 students. The result of the research showed that the highest students’ score was 95.45 and the lowest score was 45.45. Furthermore, the undergraduate students’ ability in writing descriptive text is good with the mean score was 79.7. Even though the students’ results were good, they still have difficulty in writing text in relation to the use of correct common structures. Next, the second result was about the dominant aspect. Based on the result, the highest mean score was students’ content which was 24.44. while the lowest mean score was students’ mechanics which was 6.5. Most of the students did not use proper punctuation especially when connecting one word to another. Even though the lowest score was students’ mechanic, the students still need to practice both their mechanic and grammar. The Implication of this findings is the student need to practice and learn more about how to write descriptive text both at home and in class.
