ABSTRACT Andi Mutmainna (A 121 17 014). “ A Study on the Implementation of Picture Word Inductive Model in Teaching Writing.” Skripsi. English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Tadulako University. Under the supervision of Sriati Usman. ABSTRACT The research design used in this study is a library research design, which involves collecting and analyzing existing data from previously published sources. The study aims to describe the steps of implementing the Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) strategy in teaching writing and to explain the reasons for its effectiveness in improving students' writing skills. The researcher collected primary data from a book written by Emily F. Calhoun (1999) and secondary data from six previous studies on the implementation of PWIM strategy in teaching writing. The secondary data sources include 6 journal articles published between 2017 and 2021. The results of the study show that implementing PWIM strategy requires 10 steps: selecting and identifying pictures, creating a picture-word chart, reading and reviewing the chart aloud, reading and classifying words, spelling words, adding words, creating titles, generating sentences and paragraphs, and reviewing sentences and paragraphs. However, the researchers from the secondary data sources applied different steps in implementing this strategy, with some adapting the procedure to suit the age, knowledge, and learning environment of their students. The study found that all the studies showed an increase in students' achievement in writing descriptive text due to the use of PWIM strategy. The researcher attributed the effectiveness of PWIM strategy to its ability to provide an attractive picture that encourages students to think inductively and motivates them to be active in the teaching and learning process. The study has implications for teachers, schools, students, and writing itself. Teachers are required to be more creative in choosing pictures as media of learning, while PWIM strategy can support teaching and learning activities in schools. At the student level, PWIM strategy can be used to teach writing skills from elementary to higher levels. In terms of writing itself, PWIM provides visual stimuli that can increase student achievement in writing.Overall, the study highlights the importance of PWIM strategy in teaching writing and provides insights into its effectiveness in improving students' writing skills.
