Abstrak
ABSTRACT Moh. Yamin, A12117010. “A Study on the Implementation of Clustering Technique in Teaching Writing Descriptive Text”. Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Mochtar Marhum and Wahyudin. The objectives of this research are; 1) to findout how the process of teaching writing descriptive text using Clustering Technique and, 2) to describe the effect after the implementation of Clustering Technique in teaching writing descriptive text. The study applied qualitative research design that implemented Library Research method. The data were collected from Skripsi reviewed regarding the implementation of Clustering Technique in teaching writing descriptive text between 2015 until 2020. The scientific writing were obtained from the library and internet. The data were analyzed using content analysis technique based on Haggarty (1996). There were five thesis reviewed from Andrianto (2015), Tsaniya (2018), Mardiana (2018), Ratri (2019) and Ningsih (2020). The results of data analysis showed that the implementation of Clustering Technique in five thesis was carry out using different strategies. The researchers on five different studies also adapted the steps that have been developed by Oshima and Hogue (1999), Langan (2008), Juzwiak (2009), Clouse (2005) and Eramona and Muhd (2014). All studies showed that students' writing descriptive text increases after applying Clustering Technique. The researchers took different strategies to increase the students' interest in writing descriptive text. For examples, 1) Andrianto used famous people or simple things as topics to stimulate students' ideas and he made a group exercises consisting of 4 to 5 students to apply clustering techniques. 2) Tsaniah limited the topic of writing descriptive texts about describing people. 3) Mardiana used this technique to generate ideas like brainstorming. 4) Ratri explained the procedure in more detail so that the students understood better. And 5) Ningsih used pictures and give some questions to stimulate the students. Also, researcher indicate that Clustering Technique has some impact on students. As the impact the researcher found that; 1) The students can write faster and it was very helpful for producing better writing, 2) Clustering Technique was a powerful mental tool for students, 3) The researcher get the students more active, more eager to express their ideas into an easy and interesting writing, 4) The students enjoyed the class and they felt comfortable in writing and 5) Students who are accustomed to writing only one or two paragraphs after being given the clustering treatment improve significantly by writing three or four paragraphs. It can be concluded that using Clustering Technique in teaching writing descriptive text is an effective method even though it used different strategies.
