In collecting the data, the researcher used writing test as the instrument. Data were analyzed using three steps from Miles and Huberman (1992) namely, (1) data reduction, (2) data display, and (3) drawing conclusion. The results of the research show that the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Sindue especially X MIA 1 have some difficulties in writing descriptive text includes students’ difficulties in phrases 13 (20%), clauses 13 (20%), and sentences 39 (60%). Students’ difficulties in writing phrases which are commonly made by the students include errors in noun phrase, verb phrase, adjective phrase, adverb phrase, and prepositional phrase. Then, the students’ difficulties in writing clause include errors in independent clause and dependent clause (noun clause, adjective clause, and adverbial clause). Beside that the students’ difficulties in writing sentences include error in capitalization, misspelled of word, errors in punctuation, and errors in sentence structure (simple present tense). The total numbers of students’ difficulties in writing descriptive text is 65 from 10 students. The most dominant difficulty in writing descriptive text is the sentences with 39 errors from 65 total errors with a percentage of 60%. The dominant difficulty occurs because the students pay less attention to the uses of capitalization, misspelled, punctuation, and sentence structure (simple present tense). The researcher implies that the students must be discussed their problems with the teacher. So, the teacher can provide motivation and more interesting methods. The teacher must explain the material with the correct pronunciation. Also, when the students are given assignment, the teacher must be advised a session of correcting and informing the results of students work in class. So, the students can more easily accept the material and write the words and sentences properly and correctly. Key words: Syntactic Analysis, Students’ Difficulties, Descriptive Text
