| Abstrak ABSTRACT Sulistiawati (A 121 16 125). Improving Vocabulary Mastery of the Eighth Grade at SMPN 19 Palu through Word Chain Game), Skripsi, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Department of Language and Art Education, English Language Education Study Program, under the supervision of Nur Sehang Thamrin. This research aims at proving whether or not Word Chain Game can improve vocabulary mastery of grade VIII students at SMPN 19 Palu, particularly on noun, adjective, and verb. The research samples are class VIII C as the experimental group consisting 19 students and class VIII B as the control group consisting 19 students. They are selected by using cluster random sampling technique. The researcher employed quasi-experimental research design with the two classes given pretest and posttest. The data were analyzed statistically. The data analysis indicates that there is significant improvement between the results of pretest and posttest of both groups. The mean score of the experimental class before the treatment is 42.46, while the control group is 40.17. After giving the treatment, the mean score of the experimental group in posttest is 62.28 and the control group is 42.80. This result reveals that the t-counted (49.14) is greater than t-table (1.69). Keywords: improving, vocabulary mastery, word chain game. |
