Abstrak
ABSTRACT Rizky Amalya (A 121 16 120) “Teaching Writing Skill to the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA Alkhairaat Kalukubula by using Capitalization, Organization, Punctuation, and Spelling (COPS) Strategy”. Skripsi, English Education Study Program, Language and Art Education Department, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Tadulako University, under the supervision of Hasan Basri. The aim of this study is to find out whether using the COPS strategy can improve students' ability to write descriptive text in eleventh grade or not. The experimental group consisted of 25 students, while the control group consisted of 25 students. The cluster random sampling technique was used to choose them. The researcher was used a quasi-experimental research design, gave pretest and posttest to the two groups. The data were statistically examined. The technique of data collection was test. The test included pre-test and post-test, with the mean score 65.7 for experimental class, and 61.3 for control class on pretest. Also on posttest, the experimental class scored 76.3 while the control class scored 63.7. By applying 0.05 level of significance and 48 degree of freedom (df), This implied that t-counted (3.58) was greater than t-table (1.671).The results indicated that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Thus, the application of COPS strategy was effective to improve students’ writing skill of grade eleven of SMA Alkhairaat Kalukubula.
